What is a good radio to monitor frequencies for use with GPS?

October 10, 2014

I have a new favorite radio!

Baofeng UV5R 136-174/400-480 MHz Dual-Band DTMF CTCSS DCS FM Ham Two-Way Radio

You can purchase one from Amazon [ Direct Link ] for $32.91! Seems to work great. Better batteries and battery life than my previous radios.

I personally use this radio:

And I purchase them here: http://www.aesham.com/multi-band/yaesu-ft-60r/

Excellent sensitivity, has the ability to transmit also, however you can lock that out with programming. There are plenty of other dual band radios that will work, some cost less and some cost more. But this is the one I personally use.

Consider getting the AA-cell pack for $20 too: http://www.aesham.com/batteries/chargers/solar/yaesu-fba-25/
